Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

I have never attempted homemade ice cream before, but we found a recipe on one of my Grandmother's old recipe cards and we gave it a try. I thought it turned out pretty good, although I am sure there are probably other recipes out there I would like to try too.  But, for starters, here is a nice basic vanilla.

Oh, and be sure to use NICE vanilla.  It makes all the difference!

Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

5 eggs, beaten until light
2 cups sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
2 1/2 cups heavy cream
1 qt. whole milk
2 Tbl. vanilla

Add sugar and salt to eggs; beat. Add the rest of the ingredients and combine well.  Pour into ice cream maker and freeze according to your maker's directions.
